Carlos Vidal
Artist and teacher. Graduated in Painting from Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon (FBAUL), where he teaches Painting, Composition, Installation, Contemporary Art Themes (Master of Painting) and doctoral seminars. He has a doctorate in Fine Arts / Painting with the thesis «Invisualidade da Pintura: História de uma Obsessão (de Caravaggio a Bruce Nauman» («Invisuality of Painting: History of an Obsession [from Caravaggio to Bruce Nauman])», published (Lisbon, Fenda, 2015). Spanish translation and edition, Brumaria, Madrid, 2018 (Out of print), 2nd edition: Brumaria, 2019.
Participated in the most significant exhibitions of the 1990s as «Imagens para os Anos 90» («Images for the 90s»), Serralves, 1993, and several editions of the Encontros de Fotografia (Photography Meetings) of Coimbra. He reintroduced Guy Debord's study in Portugal with the collective «Espectáculo, Disseminação, Deriva e Exílio: Um projecto em Torno de Guy Debord» («Spectacle, Dissemination, Drift and Exile: A project around Guy Debord»), Beja, 1995.
He has written several chapters of collective books. He published other books: «Deus e Caravaggio: A Negação do Claro-Escuro e a Invenção dos Corpos Compactos» («God and Caravaggio: The Negation of the Chiaroscuro and the Invention of the Compact Bodies») (1st edition: Lisbon, Vendaval, 2011, 2nd edition: Coimbra University Press, 2014, 2nd Spanish edition with 3rd reprint, 2018).
Recently published, from Portuguese original (Lisbon, Vendaval), «La Sombra Total: Arte, Amor, Ciencia y Política en Alain Badiou» (Brumaria, July, 2018).
